Comfortable Endodontic Care

After Treatment

After treatment

Your tooth and surrounding tissues may be tender for several days after treatment.  This tenderness is normal and typically not a cause for concern.  If possible, avoid chewing on the tooth until your dentist has placed a permanent restoration or crown.

If your medical history permits, post-operative discomfort can be alleviated by over-the-counter medications such as ibuprofen (Advil®/Motrin®) or acetaminophen (Tylenol®).  These medications should be taken with food.  Should you experience discomfort that cannot be controlled with these medications, or should swelling develop, please contact our office immediately.

Endodontic treatment has now been completed.  The root canal system has been cleaned and filled.  However, a temporary restoration has been placed to close the outer surface.  A follow-up restoration is needed to protect your tooth against fracture or reinfection.  It is important that you follow up with your dentist for a permanent restoration within 2-3 weeks after root canal therapy.
